REGULATION AND PROMOTION OF CIRCULAR ECONOMYEU wishes to promote longer-lasting, high-quality textiles. But as we are an estimated 10-15 years of research behind in assessing this correctly, what kinds of political instruments would promote circularity as well as address the escalating climate crisis? The project This 10-month project has as its baseline a review of textile assessment schemes- and certifications, that helps form an understanding of the data gaps and lacking methodologies for assessing the actual environmental impact of textiles. Project deliveriesThe project has contributed to a more profound understanding of what type of data and assessment parameters are needed to validate what longer lasting, high-quality textiles are. It is an urgent matter since the EU Textiles Strategy has this as the very foundation for its 16 various elements and its ambition of ending the era of fast fashion. Great summary of P&G presentation Al.Visa also presented on how it can use its 'super power'.Douglas Sabo noted that the share # of transactions visa enables, provides an opportunity to influence by sharing relevant information on environmental impacts. Some areas I found equally interesting were other areas visa saw they could influence:- transit (convenience)- EV adoption (convenience)- travel & tourism (empowerment)- recommerce (utilisation)I am most interested on that last point. I would LOVE to see visa use its superpower to actually reduce material extraction full stop. Sustainable Brands conference P&G CEO Jon Moeller spoke via recorded video. He believes that P&G has the responsibility to help consumers who want to live a more sustainable life. They also believe sustainability Innovation should be shared. An example he shared was the technology they developed for polypropylene plastic recycling which removes color and odors (current technology does't do this). So they licensed this methodology so it can be scaled and can be used by competitors too. He also said Performance drives brand choice; something similar to what I like to say, sustainability should be an "and" high performance and more sustainable. Virginie Helias CSO of P&G spoke about water restoration projects in key regions around the world they support. Interesting stat - they Touch 5 billion people with their brand and help people to save water like cascade platinum plus which uses 80% less water in a dish washer.
